It is common, in times of transition, to think about what is being lost, but it takes intention and practice to envision what is in the process of being created.  One of the first stories I ever wrote was about a young boy who would sit on the stairs between his family home’s first floor and their basement and look at shelves filled with jars of cucumbers and large pieces of dill and spices, his family canning tradition.  He’d wonder “When exactly does a cucumber become a pickle?”  Transitions seem to call for grieving over cherished things that are being lost but also giving energy to what you want to create. If this is a time of transition for you, what would you like to see in what is becoming?
