Remember the TV show, Cheers? A host of quirky characters populated a basement bar in 1980s Boston. Yes, some wanted to avoid going home and others liked to live in an alcoholic fog, but the most compelling reason why people preferred sitting on a stool there to a throne anywhere was because they felt welcomed and accepted there. It was a place where, as their theme song went, “Everyone knows your name.” Can you think of a place in your neighborhood where you like to go? What makes it welcoming or comfortable for you? What makes you feel grateful when you spend time there?
