Being able to quiet your mind is, itself, something to be grateful for. It can also be a great preparation for noticing things in the moment for their positive effect on you, for the way different things make you feel. Most people appreciate how conscious breathing gets them to slow down.  Yet, people need to find their own method for getting quiet. Not everybody likes to sit for mediation or write haikus. Some people like to crochet or jog or work in a garden. Try three different things that might work for quieting your mind. Experiment. Take a walk and count all the dogs you pass.  Watch a candle for five minutes. Clean your kitchen. Listen to Mozart….After a quieting activity, if you feel you feel you are simply being present, not focused on the future or the past, it’s good to note what got you there.
