After watching the Academy Awards show, I found myself ruminating over the idea of giving awards, or some type of recognition, for noticing the blessings already present in my life. I think I’d call them The Beatrices (after Dante’s inspiration Beatrice Portinari).

Just last week, I was contacted by surprise by a college friend who found my No Small Thing blog on the Internet. Yesterday, I overheard a conversation where people were discussing the ballet I just saw Friday night. Set to Mahler’s 3rd Symphony instead of framed in a traditional narrative like Swan Lake, I was eager to have the opportunity to talk to someone else about their experience of it.

And the thermometer hit 60 degrees yesterday! A treat in February.
