I have discovered joy in incremental victories. I am very grateful for them. I also know it takes practice to see indicators of progress that might be short of a goal. When I was a child, I learned how to hold my breath under water, then I learned how to move my arms in a crawl, then I learned how to blow air out through my mouth — before I could swim.  Mastery at each stage helped me keep going. Progress in many pursuits is not so easy to mark.  Nonetheless, it’s important to spend time, to define what progress might mean to you. When It comes to forgiveness, maybe I could acknowledge not being angry at the mere thought of a person, or maybe I can think about some of a person’s better characteristics. Think of something you want to achieve. Consider ways to tell that you’re moving towards that goal. After each milestone, allow yourself to feel pride or relief, or acknowledge yourself for the achievement.
