Sometimes it’s hard to know what makes you happy or what gives you cause to feel grateful. Taking photographs is a great way to make yourself conscious of things you are not normally conscious of. For one day, take photos of things you are drawn to. You could use a disposable camera or even the camera in your cell phone. It doesn’t matter if you take a perfect or artistic snapshot. Look at the images you captured. Ask yourself why a particular image might be meaningful to you? How does it make you feel? What images make you laugh or cry, feel liberated or loved, or lucky? Write down your first thoughts about those images. You might try to write captions for each photo. What qualities are conveyed by an image or subject of your photos, or by the caption or associations you have with taking the picture? What do these images suggest you value?
