Activities from the world of Improv have become popular in companies and different types of organizations that accomplish their goals though teamwork. A favorite game from Improv is “Yes…AND.”  The idea is to have a conversation between two or more people where you accept the statement that was provided (instead of refuting it) and build on it as if telling one story in one voice. This demonstrates respect and mutual regard, a releasing of ego, which is a great starting point for any relationship. A similar game can be played with gratitude. Instead of expressing thanks sporadically for random outcomes, after contemplating what you are thankful for, experiment with saying thanks about things you want to build on. As example: “Thank you, neighbor, for helping me with our block’s garage sale, taking money while I answered questions, AND I’d like to work with you planning our summer block party. We make a good team.”  Practice asking for something out of gratitude but also a state of sufficiency.
