There are almost as many favorite sayings as there are people.  “That’s the way the cookie crumbles.”  “Turn lemons into lemonade.” “Like herding cats.”  Sometimes, I find the prompt dispensing of expected sayings irritating. The words are more about the other person than about what I need to hear.  As I got older, I learned how to listen for the character and affection being conveyed in over-used phrases. Write a few paragraphs about someone you know and their favorite saying. Think about what the person means to you and what was conveyed outside of the words. Let gratitude well up in you for having, or having had, this person in your life.
