When I think about things I’m grateful for, I think about what I love. This examination points to what I value. Based on wanting to repeat certain types of experiences, I can say: I love being able to make my own decisions about what I want to do; I love laughing at comments or observations that might be ironic but are also insightful or personally revealing; I love seeing people express respect and care for others. From these answers, I might conclude that I value independence, wit, and empathy. This helps me think of what I want to see in new circumstances, what I’m likely to be grateful for. It’s a loop. Think of three activities or scenarios that you love. Identify one key value for each. For each value, think of three examples (not using the original experience that led you to recognize this value) that might show up in your daily life that reflects this value.
