My recent experience of making a collection of small personal items to give away to a needy child spurred me to think about little personal things I am happy I have in my life. Thinking about why these things are important to me makes me think about what I value. By looking at the contents of my shoebox, I could say I value social acceptance, comfort, and personal power. As a core principle of my gratitude practice, now that I know some things I VALUE, I can consider how social acceptance and connection, comfort, and personal power might be showing up in ANY MOMENT. This knowledge makes me confident that there is always something to be grateful for. What’s in your shoebox?
